About

The Australia Finance Conference (AUSFIC) is an annual initiative run by a group of highly motivated students from a range of universities across New South Wales. AUSFIC seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts taught in business school and industry-practice.

The conference seeks to provide an advanced insight into the business operations performed by key industry leaders, and their responses to trending economic issues. The day consists of senior executives from a wide array of finance firms participating in panel discussions and hosting workshops to provide this insight.

Through the profile of our speakers and the success of each past conference, the Australia Finance Conference has become the largest student-led initiative in Australia.

Theme

2018 marks the 10 year anniversary of the Global Financial Crisis. We are seeing for the first time since then evidence of a synchronized recovery. Central banks globally are readily hiking interest rates from historical lows, whereas the US Fed is leading the unwinding of QE. As volatility returns as the new norm, and ETFs and program trading poses material risk to market liquidity, investors are now said to be navigating new waters in this period of uncertainty.

The dynamics of deal-making has also shifted, particularly in ANZ as confidence in markets accelerates M&A activity. Volatility is considered to be the new norm, and we have also seen increased competition for private equity and sponsor-driven deals..
